ONLY THE LORD HAS TITLES

ONLY THE LORD HAS TITLES

titles, Pastor, Preacher, Brother, Sister, Minister, Reverend, Doctor, Father, Holy Father, Pope, Deacon, Bishop, Archbishop, Prophet, Prophetess, Apostle, and ElderDid you even think the four gospels in the New Testament are the autobiographies of the Lord Jesus Christ?  Yes, autobiographies – you know, the biographies he wrote about himself while using Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as his “keyboards.”  Well, if you believe the scripture is the infallible and inerrant Word of God, you might want to consider the gospels as autobiographies, and how the Lord Jesus Christ wrote about himself in a humble way.

Thinking along this line, it is clear the Lord Jesus is very humble, and even though he initially identifies himself in the four gospels as Jesus Christ, he usually refers to himself only as Jesus.  Also, consider when Saul of Tarsus met up with the Lord on the road to Damascus, and asked him, “Who art thou, Lord? “  He could have said, I am the Lord Jesus Christ whom thou persecutest, or, I am the All Mighty God - but he didn’t.  He said, “I am Jesus whom thou persecutest….”  Even in the last portion of Revelation, the Lord states about himself, “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.”  Amazing isn’t it, considering how many preachers in their church bulletins and business cards use religious titles as one of their names.  And oh how they love to be called in public by such titles: Pastor, Preacher, Brother, Sister, Minister, Reverend, Doctor, Father, Holy Father, Pope, Deacon, Bishop, Archbishop, Prophet, Prophetess, Apostle, and Elder, as in young Mormon door-to-door missionaries. (Is that an oxyMormon?)

On the other hand, did you ever notice in the scripture no minister in the Lord Jesus’ church is called by a religious title, but more than likely your local priest or pastor calls himself by such a self-magnifying name, and you call him that also!  Well, maybe that happens in your church, but not in God’s church, for all “Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” Amen.  I guess those titled boys, which are not entitled to their titles, are not our brothers, but rather ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing – sheepskins - as in diplomas.  You don’t need to think about that one long to get it, do you?

Listen: all we believers have been made kings and priests to God, and there is no so-called “clergy” in the Lord’s church with religious titles, except, of course, the head of the church, the Lord Jesus Christ.

And so, until we meet again, remember… God loves you.  Read your Bible.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
