Well, first of all, most any Christian who has gone down the road a bit knows the word Christ means, "The Anointed One," and Christ is also one of the other names of God. And if you have been down the road a little further, you have heard preachers say they are "Anointed of God," especially on television, and by traveling evangelists. In other words, they say they are Christ. Get it?

“I am Christ”

The Lord Jesus said, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:5)  Now who in the world is going to go around saying they are Christ, and deceive many?

Well, first of all, most any Christian who has gone down the road a bit knows the word Christ means, “The Anointed One,” and Christ is also one of the other names of God.  And if you have been down the road a little further, you have heard preachers say they are “Anointed of God,” especially on television, and by traveling evangelists.   In other words, they say they are Christ.  Get it?  These actors are slyly proclaiming to be special messengers of the Almighty (little gods) and it is a ploy to prime the ignorant for the offering plate pass that picks their pockets.  The gullible lambies out there are like the two fellows who were watching the preacher on the tube, and one asked the other, “How do you know he is anointed of God?”  And the other replied, “Because he said so!”

Now when the Lord Jesus said there were many that would come in his name, and say they are Christ, there are many that come in his other special names too. Take Father, for instance.  In Matthew 6:9-15 the Lord taught when praying, to address God as Father: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”  Father is a special, sanctified name of God and not the name of the person who naturally begat you.  This fact was dramatically illustrated when Jesus was twelve years old, and confronted by his mother about his disappearance. “Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.  And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?”  (Luke 2:48-49)

The Lord elaborated on this in Matthew Chapter 23 when he publicly chewed out the scribes and Pharisees, who were the religious scholars and denominationalists back then.  He commanded, “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”  I can hear the Protestants agreeing, “Yeah, that’s the Catholics alright.  They call their priests ‘Fathers.’” This is true, of course, even as the word Pope means Father; but Christ said to call “no man your father on earth.” And this means to call no man Father, with a capital F; and refer to no man on earth as your father, with a lower case f, because he who begot you the second time, and the only time that counts, is God.  Listen: You can only have only one Father, right, so it is either God, or that fellow who contributed to your genetic makeup when you were born the first time a sinner, but not the second time when you became a born againer.  And as more insight, the words Father, Abba, Papa, Pa, Daddy, and Dad mean the same thing, and they are all really the names of God, no matter how casual you get with them, and to whom you direct them to. (My, my, the narrow way is all of a sudden narrower, isn’t it.)

The Lord also pointed out Rabbi was one of his names in the same chapter, which is the equivalent of Pastor in the so-called Christian churches today.  Both Rabbi and Pastor are the names of God, because you have only one Master, or Teacher, who is, and ought to be Jesus Christ. God may teach you through some person, though, but the Lord is the one doing the teaching; and if you do not embrace this truth, you can get hooked and filleted by some illegal angler. However, one may have the spiritual gift of being a pastor/teacher, but they are not to be called or addressed as Pastor, like “Pastor Schickelgruber” for example, which directs unwarranted honor to them.  After all, we are just brothers given diverse gifts and abilities as God wills, and not as man wills. (I Corinthians Chapter 12)

The Lord Jesus also teaches we are not to be referred to as masters with a lowercase m, as in not being called a teacher, or one of the teachers, or the one who is teaching the Bible lesson today. And by the way, if you went to the seminary, or college, or the U, and earned a religious degree like a master’s or a doctorate, you will notice it is not signed by God because you didn’t go to his school.  Do the math and figure out whose school you went to, though.  Yep, the same one ol’ Saul of Tarsus graduated from before he got saved, and from which he acquired a sheepskin diploma, as in “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Matthew 7:15)     It’s kind of amusing, isn’t it? The false prophets come to you in sheep’s clothing – sheepskins - diplomas.  It all can be so obvious when it becomes obvious, eh!

I won’t go on much about Reverend being God’s name, (Psalm 111:9); or Bishop with a capital B, as Christ is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, (I Peter 2:25); or how you may be a bishop or deacon, but your name is not Bishop or Deacon So-n-so.  However, I will end this little message by encouraging you to sit at the feet of the Word of God, because the truth is in him, and not in your 501(c)3 non-profit religious organizations, which teach contrary to the Lord they say they serve.  After all, they are State Churches, and not unlike the many and diverse ones found in Pharaoh’s Egypt thousands of years ago - but that’s another subject for later.

So until we meet again - Remember, God loves you. Read your Bible.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
