God loves you, and read your Bible, because in the Bible is the truth you have wanted to know about, or the truth you are trying to avoid.

GOD LOVES YOU, READ YOUR BIBLE, Bible, New Testament, church, pew, Jesus Christ, Son of God, ohn 14:22,, Patmos PlanetMaybe you’ve heard me say or write at the end of a message, “God loves you.  Read your Bible.”  Well, it’s not an original saying of mine, as I heard it many years ago during the worst and darkest days of my life.  Like everyone else who has been saved by the Lord Jesus Christ, he not only saved me from my sins, but from the terrible circumstance I was in, and other situations since.  You see, I had lost my family, been kicked out of the small town I was a minor success in and was broke and greatly depressed.  At that time, a pastor friend of the family took me out on occasion for coffee or lunch so he could talk about God.  He was an academic sort of guy, and when it came to spiritual things, he was way over my head, and I didn’t understand much, if anything.

One day as we were out for a cup of joe, he gave a kindly direction and said, “God loves you.  Read your Bible.” That was simple enough for me to understand, and I decided to give it a try because I was pretty desperate.  So I went home and found a Bible, and after a few weeks of reading the New Testament over and over again, I started to wonder if the Jesus in scripture was who it claimed him to be – the Son of God.   If he was for real, I thought, that meant he was risen from the dead, still alive, and could save me from my sins and give me another chance in life.  After all, he had done greater things than that for others.  So I kept on reading, and at some point I realized I needed to make a decision if he was for real or not, and if he was, I would follow him the rest of my life.

It happened one day, on a couch in the den, and not on a pew in the church, when I decided to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; and when I did, I knew beyond a doubt he was.   The Bible says it best about one’s conversion when Jesus answered one of the disciples on the subject, “Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (John 14:22-23)  Of course, the simplicity of it is… the Lord comes to live with you and inside of you, and you cannot help but notice his presence as you are sharing the same exact space.  In other words, where there was just you in that body of yours, now there is you and Jesus Christ – forever.

And so until we meet again…  Remember, God loves you, and read your Bible because in the Bible is the truth you have wanted to know about, or the truth you are trying to avoid.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
