Dear Daughter...

The following is a facsimile of a testimony that was written from a mother to her daughter about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear Daughter,

I wanted to let you know how I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

I was twelve years old at VBS when I realized what a terrible a sinner I was.  I believed that Jesus loved me and all other children because of the songs I had learned when I was very young. I knew that Jesus was crucified and rose from the grave. I didn't realize that my sin put him on the cross. (He died for all sin.) I never doubted that God existed. I just never realized that what he did was so personal - for me.

When I truly believed in my heart all these things, I came to the realization that my sins had put him on the cross, I was so remorseful that I had lived a life that wasn't pleasing to him. I ask God to forgive me and for Jesus Christ to come into my heart and live so that I could be all he created me to be. Revelation 3:20 says...

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

I ask God to forgive me of all the sins I had ever done and said I would never live like that again. After I had asked the Lord Jesus to come into my life and live forever I was baptized.

The word of God says that after you believe that Jesus is the Son of God that you should repent (that means to turn away from your sinful life and go toward God's way), and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. I began to go to Sunday school but realized shortly thereafter that I didn't know all the things that the other kids my age knew. I didn't know the books of the Bible, or the order of the books, or the stories of Daniel in the Lion's Den, Jonah and the Whale, David and Goliath, and all the other stories that the other kids knew that grew up in that church.

I went to church when I was an adolescent, but not Sunday school. When I went, I went by myself a lot. I rode the church bus. As I became older, I felt too embarrassed to be the only big kid on the church bus. I didn't go much unless someone gave me a ride. I tried to be a good person, but without Christian guidance and encouragement, one sort of goes their own way, thinking it to be right. A person can be easily influenced or rationalize behavior that isn't appropriate if you don't hear and continue to hear what the word of God says...

After you become born again, the devil will try to come between you and God. He will do all he can to make sure that you aren't the child of God that you were created to be. He will try to keep you from growing and knowing what the word of God says. That is why it is so important to keep reading the Bible over and over. Each time you read the word of God he will show you something new. In the gospel of John the first chapter it says:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men.”

Do you see where Word is capitalized? That is a proper name - Jesus Christ. The Word is God is one of God's names. When you read your Bible, you are actually spending time with Jesus Christ himself. Isn't that cool? He loves you more than anyone and will never leave or forsake you. He loves you more than you love your children. Can you imagine that? Learning from the word of God is like you feeding your children breast milk. It is the purest and best food for them. The word of God is like that. You can get substitute milk from somewhere else, but you don't know for sure it isn't contaminated. Read your Bible.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
